How to Calculate Daily Calories

Your daily calorie needs are calculated using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the most accurate formula for estimating Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) for most people.

Mifflin-St Jeor Equation:
Male BMR = (10 × weight_kg) + (6.25 × height_cm) − (5 × age) + 5
Female BMR = (10 × weight_kg) + (6.25 × height_cm) − (5 × age) − 161

TDEE = BMR × Activity Multiplier

What is BMR?

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest — just to maintain vital functions like breathing, circulation, and cell production.

What is TDEE?

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is your maintenance calorie level — the number of calories you need to eat to keep your current weight, accounting for your physical activity.

Calorie Deficits & Surpluses

One pound of body fat equals approximately 3,500 calories. To lose 1 lb per week, you need a daily deficit of 500 calories. Deficits below 1,200 calories/day (women) or 1,500 (men) are generally not recommended without medical supervision.

Daily Calorie Calculator – Find Your TDEE & BMR

This free calorie calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation — the most accurate formula for estimating caloric needs — to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). Enter your age, sex, height, weight, and activity level to instantly find out how many calories you need per day for weight loss, maintenance, or muscle gain.

Your BMR is the number of calories your body burns at rest to maintain basic functions. Your TDEE accounts for your activity level on top of that. Whether you are cutting calories to lose weight or eating at a surplus to build muscle, knowing your exact TDEE makes all the difference.
